Krujë

Krujë is a historic mountain town in north-central Albania, celebrated as the cradle of Albanian national resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Perched dramatically on the steep slopes of Mount Krujë, the town is anchored by the iconic 5th-century Krujë Castle, which served as the stronghold for the country’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, during his legendary 15th-century rebellion. Within the fortress walls lie the Skanderbeg Museum and the Ethnographic Museum, offering deep insights into traditional Albanian life and history. Leading up to the castle is the Old Bazaar (Pazari i Vjetër), a beautifully restored, cobblestoned Ottoman market lined with wooden shops where artisans still practice centuries-old crafts, selling authentic handmade rugs, filigree jewelry, and copperware. Today, Krujë seamlessly combines its immense patriotic heritage with breathtaking panoramic views stretching all the way to the Adriatic Sea.
