Day 1: Tirane → Kruje → Shkoder

Start point: Your tour guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel in Tirana, or at the airport, and you will begin the journey toward Krujë.

The tour starts with a visit to the historic Krujë Bazaar, one of Albania’s oldest traditional markets, dating back over 500 years. Built in classic Ottoman style, the bazaar connects the town center with Krujë Castle through a charming stone-paved street. Along the way, you will find small wooden shops offering handmade crafts, souvenirs, and local products.

Following the bazaar, you will enter Krujë Castle, Skanderbeg’s historic stronghold and a symbol of more than 1,500 years of Albanian history. A guided walk inside the castle grounds reveals important sites such as:

  • Skanderbeg’s tree

  • The castle’s hidden passage

  • Former residential buildings

  • The Mosque of Sultan Mehmet

  • The watchtower

  • The highest viewpoints of the fortress and other historical corners

After exploring the castle, continue driving up Krujë Mountain to reach the Sari Salltik Cave. This sacred site is an important place of worship for the Bektashi community and offers breathtaking panoramic views, stretching across Tirana, Krujë, Durrës, and the Adriatic Sea.

After lunch, continue north to Shkodër, one of Albania’s oldest and most cultural cities. Your first stop will be Rozafa Castle, where over 2,000 years of history are preserved within its ancient walls. Enjoy a guided walk through the castle and its museum while taking in stunning views of the surrounding rivers and lake.

Following the castle visit, head to the city center to relax with a coffee or beer along Shkodër’s well-known promenade. The day concludes with an overnight stay in Shkodër, often referred to as the cultural capital of northern Albania.

Day 2: Shkoder → Komani Lake & Shala River → Tirana

Spend the day discovering the untouched beauty of Zgiboze, a remote area near Komani Lake often referred to as the “Thailand of Albania.” Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and turquoise waters, enjoy several hours immersed in nature, with time to swim in some of the clearest waters in the country and relax in a truly peaceful setting.

Later, enjoy a traditional lunch at a local tavern, where authentic flavors reflect the region’s heritage. In the afternoon, you will return and continue your journey toward Durrës, using the remaining time to unwind and prepare for the next chapter of your exploration through southern Albania.

Day 3: Tirana

Begin the day in Tirana with a visit to the vibrant New Bazaar (Pazari i Ri), one of the city’s most colorful and lively areas, known for its local products, fresh foods, and traditional atmosphere. From there, continue to the historic Castle of Tirana (Kalaja e Tiranës), located in the heart of the city.

Inside the castle, you will enjoy a traditional Albanian meal at the famous restaurant Ceren Ismet Shehu, well known for its authentic local dishes. During your meal, you will also have the opportunity to taste rakia, Albania’s traditional spirit and an important part of the country’s culinary culture.

Afterward, the tour continues with a visit to Skanderbeg Square, the central landmark of Tirana surrounded by important historical and cultural buildings. The experience will conclude with a relaxing visit to the Artificial Lake of Tirana, a peaceful green area where locals come to walk, relax, and enjoy nature.

The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace. You are welcome to spend your time however you prefer, and our team will be happy to provide recommendations, directions, and personalized suggestions based on your interests.

Day 4: Tirana → Apolloni → Gjirokaster

From Antiquity to the Stone City

Morning: The Grandeur of Ancient Apollonia

Our journey begins from Tirana as we head toward the archaeological park of Apollonia, one of the most important ancient cities in the Mediterranean. We explore the ruins of this once-great city, walking among the columns of the Bouleuterion and the ancient Odeon. As we wander through the site, you will discover the blend of Greek and Roman history that made Apollonia a center of philosophy and art in the ancient world. We also visit the 13th-century Monastery of Saint Mary, an architectural gem located within the park that houses unique Byzantine frescoes and a peaceful courtyard.

Afternoon: Gjirokastër – The “Stone City”

We continue our journey south to reach Gjirokastër, one of Albania’s most impressive UNESCO World Heritage sites. Rising along the slopes of Mali i Gjerë, the city’s grand stone houses and slate roofs create a dramatic, timeless landscape. We wander through narrow stone lanes lined with traditional houses and artisan shops. You will feel the pulse of history in every cobblestone as we explore the heart of the Ottoman-era bazaar.

Next, we visit the massive Gjirokastër Castle towering above the city. It offers breathtaking panoramic views over the Drino Valley and provides a deep insight into the strategic importance of this mountain stronghold through the centuries. To truly understand local life, we visit a preserved traditional house. Inside, you’ll discover how families lived within these iconic stone structures, marveling at the intricate wood carvings and defensive architecture.

Evening: Overnight in Gjirokastër

The day concludes immersed in a rich atmosphere of history and tradition. You will spend the night and sleep in Gjirokastër, enjoying the quiet beauty of the “City of Stone” after the day-trippers have left, allowing for a truly unique and authentic experience.

Day 5: Gjirokaster → Blue Eye → Butrint → Himare

From Gjirokastër to Sarandë – Nature, Sea & Ancient History

Leaving Gjirokastër, the journey continues south through a landscape of forests and valleys until reaching one of Albania’s most captivating natural sights — the Blue Eye. Hidden among dense greenery, this powerful freshwater spring rises from deep beneath the earth, forming an intense blue pool that seems almost unreal. Fed by underground sources from the nearby mountains, the water remains icy cold year-round, creating a striking contrast between color and temperature. The clarity and depth of the spring make it a truly unforgettable stop.

The route then continues to Butrint National Park, Albania’s most significant archaeological site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by wetlands and forests, the ancient ruins reveal layers of history shaped by Illyrian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine civilizations. Walking through this open-air museum, nature and history blend seamlessly, offering a powerful sense of time and place.

After visiting Butrint National Park, the journey continues north toward Himarë, following one of Albania’s most scenic coastal routes. The road winds along the Ionian shoreline, revealing dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and sweeping views of the Albanian Riviera at every turn. You will arrive in Himarë, a charming seaside town along the Albanian Riviera, known for its crystal-clear waters, relaxed coastal atmosphere, and beautiful beaches. The day ends with an overnight stay in Himarë, surrounded by the calm of the Ionian Sea.

Day 6: Himare → Dhermi → Tirana

Begin the day in Himarë with a relaxed walk along the seaside promenade, enjoying a coffee by the sea and taking in the town’s calm morning atmosphere. Continue with a visit to Himarë Castle and the old village, set above the coast, where panoramic views stretch across the Ionian Sea and the surrounding landscape.

Afterwards, travel along the coast to Jalë, a hidden gem widely considered to have the clearest and most turquoise water on the entire Riviera. Spend time at leisure by the sea, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying the high-end, peaceful atmosphere of this stunning bay.

Later in the afternoon, depart for Tirana, marking the final day of the journey. Upon arrival, the remainder of the day is left free for you to explore the city, relax, or enjoy its vibrant atmosphere at your own pace.
