Day 1: Tirana/Shkoder → Theth
Our journey toward the majestic Albanian Alps begins at 06:00 AM. Your tour leader will pick you up from your hotel in Tirana or Shkodër. As we drive north, you will be treated to beautiful, changing landscapes featuring wild fields, winding rivers, Shkodra Lake, and rugged, untouched mountains. From Shkodër, we transition to local transport at around 07:30 AM. Turning off the main highway toward Theth, the landscape becomes increasingly rural and dramatic, showcasing untouched wild nature.
On the way up, we navigate a steep, winding hillside road to reach Qafa e Thores, a mountain pass sitting at 1,700 meters above sea level. This spot is widely considered to offer the single best picture-perfect view of the Albanian Alps. After a brief refreshment break, we begin our hiking trek toward the famous Blue Eye spring around midday. Formed by the heavy erosion of melting snow, this striking pool maintains a steady, icy temperature of around 5°C. The water boasts an incredibly vibrant palette of bright blue and emerald green hues. Following the hike, we return to the center of Theth Village to visit its two historical cornerstones: the Old Church and the defensive Lock-in Tower, both rich with centuries of alpine history and local folklore. Your day concludes with an overnight stay in a traditional guesthouse in Theth.

Upon reaching the waterfall, which was officially declared a natural monument in 2002, you will be amazed by the dramatic 30-meter curtain of white water tumbling over grey rocks, cascading down the hillside in a series of smaller mini-waterfalls. Take ample time to rest and soak in the picturesque alpine landscape. This spectacular mountain pass is the perfect spot for a well-deserved rest, a trail snack, and the chance to capture incredible landscape photographs. From the pass, you will begin your steady descent down into the next major destination: Valbona Valley, another highly picturesque village cradled by massive rock faces. From there, the path steepens, climbing up to the border ridge at 2,000 meters above sea level. Reaching the pass takes roughly 4 hours of steady hiking, opening up a breathtaking, uninterrupted panorama across the wild expanses of the Accursed Mountains. Day 5: Valbona → Tirana/Shkoder (End)
Waking up to a magnificent morning view of the Valbona peaks might make you want to extend your stay, but a final day of spectacular water transit awaits. We depart the valley early to board a local boat ferry for a legendary cruise across Komani Lake. This journey takes you through towering river canyons, offering an exotic perspective of sheer vertical cliffs, hidden waterfalls, isolated rural villages, and dense green forests. It is widely considered one of Europe’s most beautiful water journeys, made even better by the genuine hospitality of the local crew.
Upon docking at the Komani dam, we board local transit for a bumpy but scenic drive tracing the edge of Vau i Dejës Lake. From there, our private driver takes over, transferring you smoothly back to the historic city of Shkodër or the bustling capital of Tirana, arriving between 19:00 and 20:00 to mark the formal conclusion of an unforgettable journey through the peaks of Albania.
