Day 1: Tirana → Sarande
Start point: Your private tour guide will meet you at your hotel lobby or pick you up at Tirana International Airport at 09:00 AM, ready to begin a day tailored entirely to your pace.
Our first destination is Sarandë, a beautiful coastal town where the scent of the sea mixes with nearby citrus groves as the sparkling Ionian waters come into view. Pockets of tranquility await in hidden coves and secluded bays, while the surrounding hills are dotted with olive groves and family-run vineyards that capture the essence of timeless Mediterranean life. Spend the morning exploring the quieter corners of the town, or claim your own stretch of beach to bask in the sun and embrace the calm of the Ionian coast.
In the afternoon, take a leisurely walk along the seaside promenade. You can stop at a charming café for a coffee, taste handmade ice cream from a local vendor, or simply watch the small boats drift gently in the harbor. As evening falls, we will drive up to Lekursi Castle, perched strategically above the city, to witness Sarandë’s spectacular sunset. Watch the Ionian Sea transform from gold to rose to deep violet while listening to the wind and the soft echo of the waves. The day concludes with an overnight stay near the Albanian Riviera.
Day 2: Ksamil
After breakfast, we will drive toward Ksamil, our main highlight for today! You will feel like you’ve stepped into a hidden island getaway as soon as you set foot on its soft sandy shores, with the magnificent sight of four small islands resting just off the coast.
Ksamil is a true treasure of the Albanian Riviera and easily ranks among the most stunning beach escapes in Europe, famous for its gentle sandy stretches and incredibly pure, turquoise waters. While the Albanian Riviera is full of beautiful coastlines, this specific destination gives you an exotic, faraway feeling—reminiscent of the Maldives, only closer. You will have plenty of time to jump in, swim through the bright blue sea, and soak in the natural beauty around you. Optionally, you can take a boat tour to explore the nearby islands closely and swim along the secluded shores nearby. The day concludes with an overnight stay near the Albanian Riviera.
Day 3: Borsh – Porto Palermo
After breakfast, prepare to explore the stunning coastline of the Albanian Riviera, a stretch of shore widely loved for its hidden bays, smooth stone beaches, and water so clear you won’t hesitate to leap in. Your tour leader will drive you toward Borsh, a calm village famous for its expansive olive farms and the longest continuous beach along the Ionian Sea, stretching an impressive 7 kilometers. The beach here is excellently kept and the water is brilliantly clear, allowing you to gaze out at the endless sea with rugged coastlines and tall mountain backdrops rising behind you.
Along the way to our next stop, we will visit the historic Porto Palermo Castle, where an old fortress rises dramatically above the deep blue water. Known alternatively as Ali Pasha Castle, this historic site carries fascinating stories from the Ottoman period. Its massive walls beautifully mix Ottoman and local structural design, featuring thick stone, curved doorways, and old cannons that once watched over the strategic bay. After exploring the castle, we will continue driving along the coast, uncovering more beautiful views and secret seaside spots. The day concludes with an overnight stay near the Albanian Riviera.
Day 4: Himara → Dhermi
Discover the serene charm of Himarë, a hidden gem nestled on the stunning Albanian Riviera. Our day begins with a highly scenic drive through quaint local villages, where traditional stone houses, grape-laden trellises, and sun-drenched fig trees perfectly capture the authentic essence of the Albanian countryside. Upon arriving in Himarë, we will wander through the narrow cobbled streets of the Old Town to admire the historic architecture and traditional homes full of local character.
Himarë’s pristine beaches invite you to relax on soft sands or take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear Ionian waters. Take time to stroll along the promenade, enjoy authentic local cuisine featuring rich Mediterranean flavors, sip fresh fruit juices, and browse handcrafted souvenirs. Afterward, we continue our journey along the coast, passing spectacular beaches like Vuno and Palasa. We will make a stop at the picturesque village of Dhërmi to enjoy some relaxing leisure time by the sea before heading to our overnight accommodation near the Riviera.
Day 5: Llogara → Vlora Bay → Zvernec Monastery → Tirana (end)
We begin our final day by heading up into Llogara National Park, making a memorable stop at the famous Llogara viewpoint. Here, you can stand at over 1,000 meters above sea level to witness a breathtaking panorama where the high mountains meet the deep blue Ionian Sea. Next, we travel down to the coastal city of Vlorë, where you will have free time to explore the vibrant city center and visit Flag Square (Sheshi i Flamurit), home to the majestic Independence Monument. This historic site marks the exact spot where Albania’s independence was declared in 1912, offering a deep connection to the country’s national history and pride.
The journey continues to the tranquil Narta Lagoon to explore the picturesque Zvërnec Island. We will walk across the iconic wooden footbridge that leads directly to the island, where the 13th-century Byzantine Monastery of Saint Mary is beautifully tucked away amidst a forest of towering pine trees. It is a peaceful, scenic escape known for its spiritual history and untouched natural surroundings. As the day draws to a close, we begin our return drive to the capital, concluding the tour with a convenient hotel drop-off in Tirana, leaving you with lasting memories of Albania’s history, nature, and coastal beauty.
